Breakin, also known as “breakdancing” is a style of street dancing that incorporates coordination, acrobatic and intricate body movements, style, and aesthetics. It evolved from the hip hop movement during the early 1970s and is the most widely known of all hip hop dance styles. In class at House of Dance, students are learning the history of the dance in class and also an array of music that the culture is most inspired from such as funk, jazz, soul, disco, electro, R&B and of course, the classics of hip-hop. While this class starts with routine warm-up and techniques that help build strength and foundation, it is also circled around creativity and freedom for the student to become their own dancer, or how it is authentically called their own “Bboy” or “Bgirl”!
Ballet

Ballet instills balance, strength, and coordination in addition to being foundational to all other dance genres. Ballet provides the technical foundation necessary to excel in any dance genre and should not be considered “optional” in dancers’ training. Progress is determined by the technical level achieved in class, each year building on previous knowledge. Ballet is an important part of every dancer’s training.

Contemporary dance expands on the technique and movements learned in lyrical class. Growing over popularity in the last decade the contemporary style aims to push dancers and their movement in new directions. Experimentation and improvisation often play a large part in creating contemporary movement. Understanding how your body moves through space, shifting of weight and momentum, floor work, and overall body strength and control all play a critical role in this style of dance. This class encourages dancers to feel their movement from within and share that feeling thru performance.
